When he has time away from his work as an assistant project manager for Brasfield & Gorrie, William Jackson Fite Jr. focuses on his health and fitness. In addition to preparing for marathons, William Jackson Fite Jr. practices weight training.

Weight training helps athletes build muscle and increase their strength. There are several different types of weight training approaches. Each delivers specific results:

- Isometric weight training. In this type of exercise, athletes hold a pose for up to 30 seconds while using weights to increase the intensity. Isometric exercises are ideal for climbers who need muscle endurance.

- Powerlifting. In this exercise, muscle groups are worked together in full-body movements, such as squats and weightlifting. Powerlifting is good for reducing fat and developing lean muscle.

- Push-pull training. The approach divides muscle groups into three categories: push, pull, and lower body. Sessions focus on one muscle group at a time. Adherents to this approach work out as frequently as six times a week.
